For 26 years he built bamboo homes and trained over 3,000 young people across North-East India. Now, at 58, he needs a kidney transplant to save his own life — and he's asking the community he served to stand with him.
"Every contribution brings hope. Every prayer brings strength."
Anjal Goswami spent more than 26 years with the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC), working in the Bamboo Housing & Construction Division. What began as a career in sustainable construction grew into a mission: proving that bamboo — humble, local, renewable — could build resorts, government offices, temples, training halls and eco-homes across the North-East.
Along the way he trained over 3,000 youth in bamboo construction, many of whom now work as bamboo-construction professionals across the country. From Kaziranga lodges to conference halls in Sikkim and Dhemaji, his hand is in structures used by tourists, officials, monks and villagers alike.
Anjal Goswami is a Mechanical Engineer with an MBA in Construction & Office Management (NIBM Global) and a trained machine-tool designer who spent 12 years in Chennai's industrial sector before an international bamboo-technology training redirected his career toward sustainable construction across North-East India.
Born on 1 January 1968 in Ghahigaon, Gohapur (Kalangpur Mouza), Sonitpur District, Assam.
Primary education at Rati Medhi Primary School; secondary schooling at M.C.D. Higher Secondary School, both in Barangabari, Sonitpur District.
Completed 10+2 in the Science stream at Biswanath College, Sonitpur District.
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (India), and a Diploma in Civil Engineering in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Joined International Tools and Diesets, Porur, Chennai as Production Supervisor, training machine operators and press-tool design; promoted to Planning Engineer, then specialised as a Machine Tool Designer for major industrial names including L&T, Ashok Leyland, TVS, Brakes India and Wheels India.
Completed an MBA specialisation in Construction Management and Office Management from NIBM Global (National Institute of Business Management), an ISO 9001:2015 certified institution.
Trained in Bamboo Manufacturing Technology at the Cottage Industry Technology Centre, Department of Trade and Industry, Republic of the Philippines (8–22 Dec 2000), under a UNIDO project promoting livelihoods in North-East India — later serving as National Expert (Consultant, Bamboo Building Construction and Training) for the Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC).
Led bamboo-construction training and builds across the region: earthquake-resistant bamboo housing with Colombian architects at Aizawl, Mizoram (2001); a national workshop at CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee; a bamboo cafeteria for the Nagaland Tourism Department at Kohima (2004); stalls for the International Flower Festival in Gangtok, Sikkim (2007–08); and an exhibition stall at Raj Bhavan, Arunachal Pradesh during a visit by the President of India (2009).
Regular contributor to the CBTC quarterly magazine and the Architecture Association of Assam (AAA) publication, with construction features in Assamese and national newspapers including Khabor, Assam Tribune and Dainik Janambhumi.
A short video appeal from Anjal and his family, sharing his story and the treatment he needs.
Anjal has been diagnosed with severe kidney failure and is currently on regular dialysis. His doctors at Gauhati Medical College Hospital have advised an urgent kidney transplant.
The doctors' advised treatment plan includes pre-transplant evaluation and compatibility testing, the transplant surgery itself, hospitalisation and intensive post-operative care, immunosuppressive medication, ongoing scans and specialist consultations, and long-term rehabilitation.
The total estimated cost — surgery, hospitalisation, medicines, investigations, post-transplant care and travel — is ₹32,00,000, an amount far beyond what his family can arrange alone.
Every contribution is directed toward one or more of these essentials.
Compatibility testing and donor matching before surgery can proceed.
The core procedure performed by the nephrology & transplant team.
Ward stay, nursing care and hospital charges around surgery.
Intensive monitoring during the critical post-operative window.
Immunosuppressants and supportive medication, both acute and ongoing.
Blood work, scans and investigations before and after transplant.
Follow-up consultations and rehabilitation in the months after.
